If Thou Must Love Me
by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only. Do not say
"I love her for her smile her look her way
Of speaking gently, for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of ease on such a day".
For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee, and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheek dry,
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou may'st love on, through love's eternity.
Event: Deja vu
A truly thoughtful gift is a recreation of the moment you first met your sweetheart, your first date or any other day that is special and meaningful to you as a couple. Depending on what you did that day, think about a movie or song that reminds you of the occasion and use it a prop for your gift. Add a note "Remember how it all began? Thanks for being in my life!"
Food: Lovers fortune
A box of delightful chocolate cookies, along with a note saying "You are my fortune - I love you!" are all it takes to make this romantic gift special.
Chocolate: Lovers dessert
Instead of buying a box of chocolates, bring all the ingredients for making your favorite desert together. Be prepared for a very sensual experience!
High-quality drill set
I guess what made it so memorable was that money was tight and I wasn't expecting it. My wife took the money she had been putting away for a new wardrobe and headed out shopping one morning. When she arrived home, she had only one new outfit and my drill set. She knew how much I wanted and needed it and sacrificed what she had been saving for herself.
Art print of a chickadee
My favorite bird is the chickadee and my wife got this gift on the spur of the moment on a year we had decided not to exchange gifts for solstice. The fact that she got me something knowing she would get nothing and that it was something so thoughtful just made it really special.
Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.
For twas not into my ear you whispered But into my heart Twas not my lips you kissed But my soul.
Oh, if it be to choose and call thee mine, love, thou art every day my Valentine!
Love is the poetry of the senses.
Love is the smoke made with the fume of sighs.
